Castries, St. Lucia – A security guard from Babonneau has been named as one of the two men charged in a multi-million-dollar cocaine bust, marking one of the most significant drug seizures in Saint Lucia’s recent history.
Lucius Popo was arrested early Monday morning (March 17, 2025) at Vierge Point, Micoud, after police intercepted a vehicle he was driving. Law enforcement officers discovered a large quantity of cocaine, estimated to have a street value of EC$1,431,750, along with a firearm.

The operation, a joint effort between the Tactical Response Unit and the Gang, Narcotic, and Firearms (GNF) Unit – Southern Detachment, is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the fight against organized crime.
Popo and his passenger, Khery Richardson of Castries, were immediately taken into custody and transported to the Micoud Police Station. Following formal interviews on March 18, both men were charged with possession of cocaine and illegal firearm offenses.
They later appeared before the Vieux Fort Magistrate’s Court, where a judge remanded them to the Bordelais Correctional Facility until their next scheduled hearing on April 17, 2025.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has commended the swift and coordinated efforts of its officers, emphasizing that drug trafficking and firearms possession remain top priorities in their crime-fighting strategy.
