A man has died and a woman is nursing multiple serious injuries after a vehicle plunged down a precipice in Au Ponche, Anse La Raye, on Sunday morning.
The Saint Lucia Fire and Emergency Services (SLFES) responded to the scene at approximately 8:07 a.m. following reports that a Toyota Aqua had veered off the roadway before careening down the embankment.
When emergency responders arrived, they found two occupants trapped inside the wreckage. The male driver was unresponsive and showed no detectable vital signs. Fire officials said he was bleeding from the nose and ears and was foaming at the mouth, injuries consistent with severe trauma.
The female passenger was found conscious but with apparent deformities to all four limbs, suggesting she had sustained multiple serious injuries.
Both occupants were extricated by emergency personnel and transported to hospital. Despite showing no signs of life at the scene, the male driver was also taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The female remains hospitalized receiving urgent medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
