Soufriere Police Roll Out Full Security Plan for Jazz Weekend

Must Read

As Soufriere prepares to host its annual Jazz weekend, police are moving decisively to reassure patrons that robust safety and security measures are firmly in place, following recent incidents that had raised concern.

Inspector Kimroy Renee of the Soufriere Police Station confirmed that law enforcement has already activated a comprehensive security strategy, developed in close consultation with the Office of the Commissioner of Police and divisional leadership. He emphasized that an elevated level of policing will be visible throughout the event, assuring that authorities are committed to “doing everything within our power” to ensure the safety of all patrons.

Renee noted that recent operations have already yielded results, with three individuals currently in custody as investigations continue. However, he stressed that beyond enforcement, the focus is firmly on prevention and public reassurance, explaining that the police will maintain a “heightened presence” across Soufriere before, during, and after the festivities.

Patrons attending the Jazz activities can expect a strong and coordinated deployment of officers, supported by a detailed traffic and security plan. According to the inspector, personnel from tactical, operational, and traffic units will be strategically positioned to manage crowds and movement, with the aim of “guaranteeing and safeguarding each and every person” attending the event.

In addition to the immediate measures, Renee revealed that a manpower audit of the Soufriere Police Station has been conducted, identifying limitations and prompting recommendations to strengthen staffing levels. He explained that this effort will further enhance the capacity of officers on the ground, ensuring a sustained and effective security presence.

While acknowledging the concerns that have emerged in recent times, the inspector underscored the importance of the Soufriere Jazz weekend as a major cultural and economic event. He reaffirmed that law enforcement is fully committed to preserving that experience, ensuring that patrons can attend with confidence and enjoy the festivities in a safe and secure environment.
