Do Not Get Comfortable’: Julien Alfred Warns Young Athletes

Must Read

Saint Lucia’s Olympic champion Julien Alfred has a clear message for young athletes: securing an opportunity is no reason to stop working hard.

“Far too many times, you’ll see athletes with opportunities, and they stop working hard when they get that opportunity,” Alfred said, urging the younger generation to maintain the commitment that helped them advance.

“Do not get comfortable during that process, because your hard work is going to take you so far,” she cautioned.

The Olympic gold and silver medallist highlighted discipline, nutrition and recovery as essential to sustaining an athletic career.

“The discipline, the nutrition, the recovery as well, just keep going and continue to work hard, just as if you never got that opportunity,” she advised.

Alfred also urged emerging athletes to make the most of their chances, pointing to the uncertainty and limited lifespan of sporting careers.

“Our careers are so short, and we just never know what will happen tomorrow,” she said. “Take full advantage of the opportunities you have right now.”

Alfred made history at the Paris Olympics, winning gold in the women’s 100 metres and silver in the 200 metres to secure Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic medals.
