Can You Win at Wordle in Kwéyòl? Saint Lucian Platform Launches 20-Plus Free Games

Must Read

Saint Lucians can now test their Kwéyòl, challenge friends and explore the island’s communities through more than 20 free games on a homegrown digital platform.

JweKwéyòl is inviting people at home and across the diaspora to bring the language onto their screens this Creole Heritage Month, with activities ranging from Kwéyòl Wordle and crosswords to multiplayer dominoes and geography challenges.

The platform works on phones, tablets and computers without an app download, giving families, students and newcomers an accessible way to practise Saint Lucian Kwéyòl.

Founded by Saint Lucian media and digital content producer Nigel Shomari Nicholas, JweKwéyòl combines language learning, music and local knowledge in one online destination.

According to its launch announcement, the games draw vocabulary from the official Saint Lucian Kwéyòl dictionary. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels allow players to build their skills and unlock tougher challenges as they progress.

Players can match words, complete sentences, unscramble vocabulary and test their listening and typing skills. Numbers, colours and arithmetic also feature, extending the experience beyond word puzzles.

For those who enjoy competition, private multiplayer rooms allow friends, relatives and classmates to face off in Ludo, Domino Kwéyòl, Battleship Kwéyòl and Wordle.

The platform also asks a different question: how well do you know Saint Lucia?

Its geography games use the island’s census communities and a map to challenge players on districts, locations, directions and place names. A Daily Challenge offers fresh questions with results players can share.

An integrated online station, Jwé Kwéyòl Radio, adds a musical backdrop, featuring Kwéyòl music, Dennery Segment, Creole Soca, Zouk, Kompa and cultural folk music, alongside sounds from other French Creole-speaking countries.

Users can play as guests or sign in with Google or Discord to save scores, track progress and compete on leaderboards.

With October’s cultural celebrations leading into Jounen Kwéyòl, the organisers are encouraging schools, community groups and families to include the games in lessons and events.

The platform is available free at jwekweyol.com.
