A record turnout at Saint Lucia’s 2026 Billfish Tournament has Republic Bank looking towards its next community partnerships, with Country Manager Ron Leon saying the bank’s support must extend beyond brand visibility.
The tournament drew 173 anglers from Saint Lucia, the wider Caribbean and international markets—the largest field in its history. As title sponsor, Republic Bank partnered with the Saint Lucia Game Fishing Association to support an event that brought sport, tourism and community together.
“This Billfish Tournament is getting bigger and bigger every year,” Leon said, describing the international participation as an opportunity “to show the entire world that we have something to offer.”
For Leon, the event showcased both Saint Lucia’s marine attractions and its sporting diversity. He said Republic Bank was “extremely proud” to partner with a local organisation that could help bring those strengths to an international audience.
The connections formed beyond the competition at sea were equally important. Pointing to the teamwork and togetherness surrounding the tournament, Leon said, “You can see the camaraderie… That is what we love.”
That community spirit, he explained, reflects the bank’s wider approach to sponsorship: building relationships that reach the people it serves.
“Republic Bank remains very committed to sponsorship,” Leon said, adding that the institution wants to work with partners capable of developing “relationships that can penetrate the communities.”
He cited the bank’s association with the Caribbean Premier League as another example of support for initiatives that bring people together.
Looking towards 2027, Leon signalled that Republic Bank would continue seeking partnerships with that purpose: “More Republic Bank, reaching out with partners who can make an impact in the community.”
