Choiseul/Saltibus MP Keithson Charles is calling for decisive police action following two recent violent incidents, warning that authorities must act to prevent further escalation. He condemned the violence and said the incidents had threatened the peace of some residents.
“We will not tolerate lawlessness, and I appeal to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to utilize the full extent of the law to investigate these matters and prevent any type of escalation,” Charles said. He described the incidents as isolated and stressed that they did not define the constituency.
“Let me be clear, Choiseul-Saltibus is a peaceful, safe community, and we’ll keep it that way. We make no bones about it.”
Charles maintained that the violence was out of character for the community. “So the incidents that we hear of recently are isolated incidents, and this is not the usual way that people go about life in Choiseul-Saltibus,” he said.
The Fire Service, in its account of a shooting, said emergency personnel were dispatched at 7:41 p.m. following a report of a gunshot wound. Responders found an adult male lying on his back behind a pickup van, with a penetrating wound to the right side of his body.
The man was unresponsive and had no detectable vital signs when assessed, according to the Fire Service. Emergency personnel performed lifesaving interventions before transporting him to a medical facility for advanced care.
The Fire Service statement did not detail the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is appealing to anyone with information that could assist investigators to come forward.
