A 36-year-old Saint Lucian man has been charged under the Computer Misuse Act following a police investigation into a series of videos that circulated widely on social media in recent days.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Albert Charlery identified the man as Clint Devon Richardson, a Saint Lucian national who was deported from the United States in March 2022.
According to Charlery, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the videos, resulting in Richardson’s arrest on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
He was subsequently charged on Monday, September 21, with the offence of malicious communication under the Computer Misuse Act.
Richardson appeared before the First District Court on Tuesday, September 22, where he was granted bail in the sum of $500 cash.
Charlery said that as part of his bail conditions, Richardson is prohibited from posting anything on social media expressing frustration. He is also required to report to the Central Police Station every Tuesday before 6 p.m.
The matter has been adjourned to November 5, 2026.
Following the charge, police issued a broader warning about the potential consequences of online activity.
While acknowledging the right of individuals to express themselves, Charlery stressed that electronic devices and social media platforms must be used responsibly and within the confines of the law.
The RSLPF is urging members of the public to exercise caution before recording, posting, forwarding or sharing online material, particularly content that may be threatening, menacing, misleading or intended to cause distress or alarm.
Police warned that what is posted or shared on social media can have legal consequences.
