12 Saint Lucian Students to Make Two-Minute Films as Island Eyes 2028 Festival

Must Read

Twelve Saint Lucian students are set to make two-minute films and get one-on-one feedback from visiting film professionals this week as local and Polish creatives lay the groundwork for a proposed Eastern Caribbean film and animation festival in 2028.

The masterclass takes place on Wednesday, November 4, at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. Polish director Xawery Żuławski, the forum’s guest of honour, will join Joanna Łopat and Lude Réno in giving individual feedback on the students’ films.

The session is part of the Poland–Saint Lucia Film Partnership Forum, which opened on November 3 at the Grande Rivière Resource Development Centre in Gros Islet. The four-day forum brings together the Audiovisual and Film Association (AVFA), Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Malfinis Film and Animation Studio and a Polish delegation.

Opening-day discussions focused on what the proposed Eastern Caribbean Animation and Film Festival could look like and where the region’s film sector needs more support. AVFA President Kendal John and Malfinis representatives Milton and Nandi Brandford are among the local creatives taking part.

Regional and international contributors are expected to join discussions on Thursday and Friday to refine festival proposals and set milestones for the work ahead. The forum will also explore how partnerships can help local filmmakers develop their skills and connect with film and animation professionals abroad.

The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is funding the Polish delegation’s travel through its NetWorks programme.
