A 40-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 21-year-old Merissa Auguste. Her partially decomposed body was discovered along the Millennium Highway earlier this month.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) confirmed on Monday, September 22, that Vianney Lubrin of La Croix Maingot, Castries, has been formally charged with Auguste’s murder.
Auguste had previously been reported missing before police made the grim discovery on Friday, September 11, after responding to a report of a partially decomposed body in an area along the Millennium Highway. The body was subsequently identified as Auguste.
According to police, a post-mortem examination determined that the 21-year-old died from strangulation.
Following investigations by the Major Crimes Unit, Lubrin was charged with murder and escorted before the First District Court. He was remanded in custody until October 6, 2026.
Police stressed that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Auguste’s death remains ongoing.
