A total of eleven people were injured in two separate road accidents within hours on Friday along the Millennium Highway and in Pierrot, Vieux Fort.
The latest occurred at approximately 3:54 p.m. in Pierrot, where a minibus reportedly veered off the road and crashed into a wall.
According to the Saint Lucia Fire Service, emergency personnel arriving at the scene found an adult man and woman lying on the ground.
The man sustained head trauma and other bodily injuries, while the woman suffered soft tissue trauma to her left lower extremity along with other injuries. Both were treated at the scene before being transported to a medical facility for further care.
The Pierrot crash came just hours after another major collision along the Millennium Highway involving two vehicles and nine people.
Fire officials responded to that incident at approximately 1:50 p.m. One vehicle had a sole occupant who had to be extricated and sustained minor lacerations and abrasions to his lower extremities.
Eight people were travelling in the second vehicle and also sustained varying degrees of injury. All nine people involved were treated before being transported to a medical facility for further care.
The two incidents brought the number of people injured in the separate Friday afternoon crashes to 11 within the space of just over two hours. The circumstances surrounding the Pierrot collision were not immediately disclosed.
