As uncertainty continues to ripple through the local workforce following reported layoffs at Acado, the National Workers Union (NWU) has moved to clarify its position, even as affected employees seek answers and resolution.
Claims of mass redundancies first surfaced last Thursday, when reports emerged that a number of employees had been dismissed amid what workers describe as sweeping internal changes by the company. One affected employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the matter has since been escalated to both the Labour Department and the NWU in an effort to secure redress.
However, in a development that may complicate the situation for those impacted, the NWU has indicated that it does not represent the category of workers affected by the layoffs. Speaking on the matter, Mr. Johann Harewood further noted that union members currently employed at Acado have not been impacted by the redundancy exercise.
The clarification leaves several displaced workers navigating an already difficult situation without direct union representation, raising broader questions about worker protections and access to support mechanisms during corporate restructuring.
Meanwhile, Acado has declined to comment publicly on the matter.
With the issue now before the Labour Department, affected workers are hoping for intervention that could bring clarity, accountability, and, ultimately, resolution.
