Police are working to identify a man whose lifeless body was discovered in shallow water at Anse Bason Beach, Vieux Fort, on Tuesday morning. The discovery has triggered an investigation into what police suspect to be drowning.
Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Vieux Fort Police Station responded to the beach at about 11:00 a.m. on August 18 after receiving a report that a body had been found in the area.
Police said there were no visible marks of violence on his body, and a medical practitioner subsequently pronounced him dead at the scene. The discovery has left investigators with a key unanswered question: who is the deceased?
As of Tuesday, police had not formally identified the man, while investigations continued into both his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is now appealing to the public for assistance, particularly anyone who may have information capable of helping investigators identify the deceased or establish what happened before his body was discovered.
