The La Clery community is preparing to celebrate its rich sporting heritage with the third annual La Clery Legends Awards, slated for Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The awards, the brainchild of Ernest “Apick” James, a son of La Clery who grew up in the community, were established to recognize and honour sports personalities whose achievements and contributions have helped shape the sporting landscape of La Clery over the past five decades.
The awards are intended to preserve the stories and achievements of generations of sportsmen and sportswomen while inspiring young people to pursue excellence in sport and in life.
The La Clery Legends awards evening will be the culmination of a week-long programme of activities beginning on Sunday, August 23, with a church service at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, La Clery. The programme includes a health fair, a veterans football match, and ‘Sit with the Legends’ that allows awardees to share their stories
The public is invited to join the people of La Clery in celebrating the community’s historic sporting figures and acknowledging the lasting legacy they have created.
