Residents of Aux Lyons are taking community development into their own hands, with a weekend clean-up and beautification drive marking the start of a wider push to create a cleaner, healthier and more connected community.
Members of the Aux Lyons Mothers and Fathers Group turned out on Saturday to clean and beautify sections of the community, combining volunteerism with a strong show of unity. After the work was done, participants gathered for a cookout, transforming the initiative into an opportunity to celebrate their collective effort and strengthen community bonds. But that activity was only the beginning.
The group says the clean-up is the first in a series of campaigns planned throughout the remainder of the year as it seeks to encourage greater community participation and build a stronger sense of responsibility for the environment.
The initiative follows the group’s Back-to-School Drive on August 29, another community-focused effort aimed at supporting residents and families.
Attention will next turn to health and wellness. On October 10, the group is expected to collaborate with the La Ressource Wellness Centre to host a Health Day, expanding its activities beyond beautification to promote healthier lifestyles and greater awareness among residents.
Culture will also take centre stage on October 17, when the Aux Lyons Mothers and Fathers Group plans to join forces with the Aux Lyons Marguerite Group for a community festival aimed at preserving and celebrating local traditions.
Through the series of initiatives, the group hopes to demonstrate what can be achieved when residents, volunteers, organisations, sponsors and other partners work together toward a common purpose.
The ultimate goal is bigger than a single clean-up campaign: to strengthen community connections, preserve Aux Lyons’ cultural identity and encourage greater participation in initiatives that improve the lives of residents.
The group has expressed gratitude to everyone who has contributed to its activities so far and is encouraging more residents and supporters to get involved as it continues its push for a cleaner, healthier and more united Aux Lyons.
