In a high-energy celebration of Caribbean music and culture, Red Carnival honoured Trinidadian soca powerhouse, Kes the Band, during the highly anticipated Color Me Red concert held on Friday, July 18th. The tribute marked the band’s 20th anniversary and was commemorated live on stage with a special presentation by Thaddeus Antoine and Irvin Springer, Directors of Red Carnival, producers of the annual event.

Regarded as Saint Lucia’s premier carnival concert, Color Me Red also marked a major milestone for Red Carnival, which is celebrating 20 years of staging large-scale cultural events. Having headlined Color Me Red an impressive seven times, Kes’ recognition was a fitting tribute to their enduring connection with the Saint Lucian carnival landscape.
The night’s lineup featured the best of Saint Lucian soca, including standout performances by Ezra D’Fun Machine, Imrand Nerdy, Carlton Roberts, Teddyson John, DYP, Bronx and Matta, and Ricky T, all of whom set the tone for an electrifying evening of live music.
Kes was presented with commemorative plaques in front of thousands of jubilant fans, a moment that celebrated not just their two-decade journey in Caribbean music, but also their role in shaping the sound of modern soca. Known for their genre-blending style, infectious rhythms and global appeal, Kes has become one of the region’s most beloved musical exports.
Robbie Persaud, a member of Kes’ management team, spoke to the band’s longstanding love for Saint Lucian audiences and their musical sensibilities.
“There’s a different kind of energy here. People love the party, but they also listen. They hear the layers in the music. There’s a deeper appreciation for the sound, the fusion, the jazz influences. That makes performing here even more special.”
Kevyn Arnold, Event Coordinator for Color Me Red, said the tribute was a natural alignment with the event’s mission.
“The recognition of Kes the Band’s achievements was a natural alignment with Color Me Red’s mission of championing cultural expression. Both Kes and Red Carnival have helped shape what Caribbean celebration looks and sounds like today.”
Red Carnival Director, Thaddeus Antoine, echoed that sentiment, noting the significance of the band’s journey.
“Honouring Kes the Band for their 20th anniversary is more than a celebration, it’s an acknowledgment of their significant contributions to our musical heritage. We’ve grown alongside them, and their journey reflects the spirit of innovation and resilience that Red Carnival cherishes.”
The energy and excitement continued late into the night with performances by regional favourites Problem Child, Blakka Dan, Lady Lava, and Bouyon artist Ridge, rounding off a night that celebrated the very best of Caribbean talent and cultural unity.
