SLASPA Confirms Temporary Airport Closures on June 28 for Nigerian Presidential Visit

Must Read

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) has announced temporary closures at both of the island’s airports on Saturday, June 28, 2025, to facilitate the official arrival of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The closure is part of heightened security measures associated with the high-level diplomatic visit.

According to SLASPA,   George F.L. Charles Airport in Castries will be closed from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, while Hewanorra International Airport in Vieux Fort will shut down operations from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM   on that day. These scheduled suspensions are aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the visiting delegation, in keeping with international protocol.

SLASPA is urging all travelers with flights scheduled around those times to   contact their respective airlines immediately to confirm any changes to their travel itineraries.

The temporary closures are expected to affect both incoming and outgoing flights, potentially leading to delays, rescheduled departures, or last-minute adjustments by airlines. While the closures are limited to two-hour windows at each airport, passengers are advised to allow for flexibility in their travel plans.

The announcement follows Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre’s recent address on Monday, during which he warned of   anticipated traffic disruptions island-wide   between   June 28 and July 4 , the duration of President Tinubu’s state visit. The Prime Minister apologized in advance for the inconvenience, while stressing the significance of strengthening diplomatic ties between Saint Lucia and Nigeria.

SLASPA also extended its apologies for any disruption caused and pledged to continue working with relevant authorities to ensure smooth operations before and after the closures.

Travelers are encouraged to monitor updates from both SLASPA and their airlines for further information.
