Significant Drug Seizure at Courier Company Highlights Ongoing Smuggling Concerns

Must Read

In its continued effort to curb the illegal drug trade, the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms (GNF) Unit, in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Department, intercepted a significant quantity of cannabis resin at a major courier company in the north of the island. The operation, which took place on Monday, April 14, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m., resulted in the seizure of 3,000 grams of cannabis resin. The haul carries an estimated street value of EC $75,000.

This successful operation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tackling drug smuggling on the island. The seized contraband was discovered at a local shipping agency, underscoring an alarming trend in the creative methods employed by smugglers to circumvent detection.

Just last week, authorities uncovered a separate shipment of illicit drugs cleverly concealed in cans of orange juice at the Vieux Fort port.

In connection with last week’s seizure, one individual has already been arrested.
