The Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) has confirmed that admitted patients at the Owen King EU Hospital (OKEU) will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in the upcoming general election, following special arrangements made with the Electoral Department.

In an internal memo dated November 20, 2025, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Damian Greaves informed staff that a temporary polling station will be set up at the hospital to facilitate voting for eligible patients who are unable to leave the facility.
According to the correspondence, the Electoral Department will deploy a team to the Paediatrics Ward on November 28, 2025, operating from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The service will cater exclusively to:
Admitted adult patients who are mentally competent,
Guardians of children admitted to the Paediatrics Ward, and
Bed-bound patients with full decision-making capacity, who will be visited directly in their wards.
Dr. Greaves emphasized that the initiative is intended to ensure that patients hospitalized during the election period are not disenfranchised. He reminded staff to support the process while safeguarding patient confidentiality in line with hospital protocols.
Eligible voters must present valid identification, including a passport, National ID, or driver’s license, to participate.
The move aligns with national efforts to make voting accessible to all citizens, including individuals facing medical challenges. The Electoral Department is expected to undertake similar facilitation arrangements at other medical institutions ahead of the December 1 General Election.
Saint Lucia Daily Post will continue to follow developments as the nation prepares for what is shaping up to be a landmark electoral event.
