More than 100 travel industry delegates from key international markets have gathered in Saint Lucia for the inaugural Saint Lucia Showcase International, an initiative aimed at turning the island’s tourism experiences, communities and emerging attractions into new business opportunities.

The event opened Thursday at Royalton Saint Lucia, bringing together representatives from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Held under the theme “Welcome to Our World… Welcome to Our Communities,” the Showcase represents a shift in the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority’s approach to international trade engagement. Instead of relying primarily on destination presentations overseas, travel partners are being immersed in the island to experience its tourism product firsthand and connect directly with local businesses and communities.
Saint Lucia Tourism Authority CEO Louis Lewis challenged delegates to look beyond the island’s familiar attractions, saying the Showcase is designed to move from simply promoting the destination to creating tangible opportunities for growth.
“We have the destination, the people, the stories and the experiences,” Lewis said, adding that the focus must now be on converting those assets into “meaningful partnerships, new business and new reasons for travellers around the world to choose Saint Lucia.”
That push comes as Saint Lucia seeks to expand its tourism product beyond traditional hotels and attractions, with greater emphasis on immersive and community-based experiences.
Among the newer offerings is Below Saint Lucia, an underwater sculpture park, while community tourism initiatives are opening additional avenues for visitors to experience local culture, cuisine, agriculture and the natural environment.
The Community Tourism Agency is using the Showcase to expose international delegates to experiences across the island, including a Llewellyn Xavier Art Gallery tour in the north, ATV and eco-friendly e-bike adventures, farm-to-table and sea moss experiences in the south, and emerging culinary and cultural attractions.
Community Tourism Agency CEO Dahlia Guard said the strategy is designed to transform the assets, skills and stories within communities into sustainable economic opportunities. By connecting entrepreneurs and small businesses to the tourism value chain, she said, a greater share of tourism’s economic benefits can reach communities and support livelihoods.
Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire also used the event to underline the Government’s focus on translating the sector’s performance into wider opportunities for Saint Lucians.
Hilaire said investments in infrastructure, airlift, product development, marketing and visitor experiences are intended to strengthen Saint Lucia’s competitiveness while supporting continued growth.
The objective, he told delegates, is “not only attracting increased visitor numbers” but ensuring the destination remains competitive, relevant and compelling as the global tourism market changes. While expressing confidence in the sector’s current performance, Hilaire said the challenge is to ensure Saint Lucia’s “best years are still ahead.”
Throughout the Showcase, international buyers, travel professionals and media representatives will participate in business meetings, destination experiences, community visits and cultural engagements aimed at generating partnerships and strengthening their ability to market Saint Lucia.

The initiative is also targeting emerging markets, including Latin America and Guyana, while deepening relationships across established markets in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe and the wider Caribbean.
Ultimately, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority is using the inaugural Showcase to sell more than a destination — positioning the island’s people, communities, culture and experiences as an increasingly important part of Saint Lucia’s global tourism appeal.
