Through a groundbreaking partnership between NAGICO Insurances and the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), one young Caribbean cricketer is set to receive a career-defining opportunity that could shape the future of regional cricket.
The two organisations have launched a first-of-its-kind developmental scholarship programme, designed to immerse an emerging player in a professional franchise environment during the 2026 Global Super League.
The inaugural recipient is 21-year-old St. Maarten batting all-rounder Michael Palmer, who will join the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the duration of the tournament. The placement will give Palmer firsthand exposure to elite coaching, professional training standards and the daily demands of top-level cricket, while sharing a dressing room with some of the region’s and the world’s leading players.
The scholarship forms part of the Global Super League’s Super We initiative and is fully funded by NAGICO Insurances, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to youth development and Caribbean sport.
Chief Executive Officer of the NAGICO Group, Kyria Ali, said the programme represents an investment in young people’s potential rather than simply providing access to elite cricket.
She explained that experiencing the professionalism, discipline and culture of a high-performance team can inspire young athletes to pursue their ambitions with greater confidence and determination. Ali added that NAGICO is proud to partner with the Global Super League on what it hopes will become a long-term initiative capable of transforming lives across the Caribbean.
Chairman of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League, Sir Clive Lloyd, described the scholarship as another important step in strengthening the future of Caribbean cricket.
He said the tournament was created not only to showcase world-class competition but also to leave a lasting legacy by creating meaningful opportunities for emerging players. Lloyd welcomed NAGICO’s partnership, noting that initiatives like this help prepare the next generation to carry forward the Caribbean’s proud cricketing tradition.
