Uncertainty continues to cloud the leadership of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, as the Government moves to stabilise command following the expiration of the Police Commissioner’s contract.
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre has confirmed that Deputy Commissioner Ronald Phillip has been appointed to lead the force in an acting capacity, ensuring continuity at a critical time for national security.
The Prime Minister said Phillip has assumed responsibility as Acting Commissioner, stepping into the role while a final decision is made on the force’s long-term leadership.
Pierre also indicated that the wait for clarity will be short, revealing that a substantive Commissioner of Police is expected to be appointed between April 1 and April 15.
His comments point to an imminent transition, though the Government has not disclosed whether the outgoing commissioner will be granted an extension or formally replaced.
The leadership question comes amid heightened public concern over crime and security, placing added scrutiny on the direction and stability of the police force.
With a decision now just weeks away, attention is firmly fixed on the Government’s next move, which is expected to shape the operational and strategic future of policing in Saint Lucia.
