Nine Lawyers to Learn Their Fate as Supreme Court Considers Disciplinary Committee Recommendations

Must Read

Nine lawyers in Saint Lucia will learn their fate when the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court considers recommendations from the Bar Association of St. Lucia’s Disciplinary Committee that could see them suspended from practice or removed from the Roll of Attorneys.

The development follows the initiation of formal legal proceedings by the Disciplinary Committee, as published in notices in the Saint Lucia Government Gazette dated Monday, January 26, 2026. The matters are scheduled for hearing on February 13 and represent the first batch of cases to reach this stage under the Bar Association’s disciplinary framework finalized in 2024.

The attorneys named in the Gazette are Alfred Alcide, Camillus Wayne Harrow, Cyprian Lansiquot, Eva St. Helene, Jeannot Walters, Marius Wilson, Martinus Francois, Danny Francis, and Sandy John.

Under Saint Lucia’s legal regime, disciplinary proceedings originate from formal complaints lodged by clients arising out of the lawyer–client relationship. The Disciplinary Committee first assesses whether there is a case to answer and, where it determines that the alleged conduct may warrant sanctions beyond its powers such as suspension or disbarment refers the matter to the Supreme Court for consideration.

The Bar Association has previously underscored that the committee itself cannot suspend or disbar attorneys, as those powers rest solely with the court. The publication of the Gazette notices signals a request for the court to consider penalties that fall outside the committee’s remit.

No findings have been made against any of the attorneys listed, and the notices do not imply guilt or wrongdoing. The matters will now be determined by the court in accordance with due process.

The February 13 hearing is expected to draw significant attention, marking a pivotal moment in the enforcement of professional accountability within Saint Lucia’s legal profession.
