Newly Elected Vincentian Prime Minister Sends Message of Support to UWP and Allen Chastanet Ahead of Monday’s Poll

Must Read

Newly elected Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday, has extended a message of solidarity and support to the United Workers Party (UWP) and its leader Allen Chastanet ahead of Saint Lucia’s general election on Monday.

Dr. Friday, who led the New Democratic Party (NDP) to a decisive victory in Thursday’s poll, said his party’s win came from a “resounding mandate” delivered by the Vincentian people. In a recorded message following his election, he described the campaign as vigorous and energized, noting that voters rallied behind their slogan, “the yellow is the code.”

Addressing supporters of the UWP directly, Dr. Friday emphasized the strong bonds between the two parties and the shared interests of Caribbean neighbours. He said the NDP takes a “keen interest” in Saint Lucia’s election and will be watching closely as the country prepares to decide its next government.

He also issued a personal message to UWP Political Leader Allen Chastanet, describing him as “a visionary man” who supported and encouraged him throughout his own campaign. Dr. Friday said it was only fitting to return that support as Saint Lucians head to the polls.

“We look forward to your elections come Monday, and we wish you all the best,” he said. “The people of Saint Lucia will decide on the new government, but as sister parties and fellow Caribbean citizens, we stand with you. I want to shout out my friend and colleague, Allen Chastanet. I wish you all the best.”

Dr. Friday’s message adds another layer of regional attention to what is expected to be a high-stakes election in Saint Lucia, as political parties make their final appeals ahead of Monday’s vote.
