Lucian Carnival’s soaring popularity could soon force Saint Lucia to think bigger.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre says the island’s premier festival has reached a point where government must begin considering a larger venue to accommodate rising participation, following what he described as one of the most successful editions of Lucian Carnival to date.
The remarks come as international soca superstar Machel Montano reportedly ranked Lucian Carnival among the best festivals he has experienced, adding another major endorsement to the event’s growing regional profile.
Speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post, Pierre thanked the thousands of visitors who travelled to Saint Lucia for Carnival, saying their presence reflects the island’s increasing appeal as a carnival destination.
“I want to thank all the visitors who came to our inspired island for Carnival,” Pierre said. “There are thousands of visitors here and I want to thank them for choosing Saint Lucia.”
He also commended the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, the Carnival Planning and Management Committee, artistes, performers, band leaders and thousands of masqueraders whose efforts helped deliver another memorable celebration.
“The Lucian Carnival is going from higher, higher, higher heights,” Pierre said. “We want to make it bigger and bigger every year.”
Pierre acknowledged that Carnival’s continued success now presents a new challenge.
“We have to make some changes because I think our venue is becoming too small. We have to find a space, make it bigger,” he said.
Montano was among the biggest attractions of Lucian Carnival 2026. Beyond headlining Colour Me Red on Carnival Friday, he immersed himself in the festivities, joining multiple bands and spending time with revellers on the road.
“I jumped with Legends, I jumped with Xuvo, I jumped everywhere. I love the whole carnival and I love the unity of the people,” Montano said.
According to Pierre, Montano later told him Lucian Carnival ranks among the finest festivals he has attended.
“He told me that was one of his best festivals,” Pierre said. “He was not only performing, he was on the road, he met people, he spoke to people, he enjoyed himself.”
Other international personalities spotted enjoying the festivities included Kandi Burruss, Angela Simmons, Klassik Frescobar, American basketballer Kalani Brown and Certified Sampson, reflecting the festival’s expanding global reach.
Pierre also welcomed what he described as the largely incident-free atmosphere on the road, saying a safe carnival experience is essential to sustaining the festival’s momentum.
“If we can continue to make Carnival, and I know for now it has been incident-free on the road as far as I know, I hope it continues so we can have more visitors, more time for the revellers, and make the Lucian Carnival the best carnival in the region.”
With record participation, celebrity endorsements and increasing international attention, Lucian Carnival 2026 has further strengthened its reputation as one of the Caribbean’s standout festivals. The next chapter, Pierre suggests, may be creating a bigger stage for an event that continues to exceed expectations.
