The Saint Lucia Kings have made a major statement ahead of the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League, appointing West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase as the franchise’s new captain as the team prepares to defend its crown and mount another title challenge.
The announcement comes just days before the tournament bowls off on August 7, placing one of the Caribbean’s most experienced cricketers at the helm of a squad aiming to build on its historic 2024 championship triumph.
Chase is no stranger to success in Kings colours. A long-serving member of the franchise, he produced one of the greatest individual CPL campaigns in 2021 when he amassed 446 runs to finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer and was named Player of the Series. He also played a pivotal role in Saint Lucia’s maiden CPL title-winning campaign in 2024.
“It is a tremendous honour to be named captain of the Saint Lucia Kings,” Chase said. “This franchise has been a big part of my cricketing journey, and I have always enjoyed representing the Kings and playing in front of our passionate fans. To now have the opportunity to lead this team is something I am incredibly proud of.”
Head Coach Daren Sammy said Chase had earned the respect of teammates through his consistency, professionalism and leadership qualities, expressing confidence that he has the character and cricketing knowledge to guide the squad through another demanding CPL campaign.
Chief Executive Officer Satish Menon also backed the appointment, describing Chase as a long-standing pillar of the franchise whose experience and strong relationship with players make him the ideal choice to lead the Kings into the new season.
The Saint Lucia Kings will play five home matches at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on August 12, 14, 16, 19 and 21, with all games scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
