A chilling armed robbery in Mount Hardy, Cap Estate, has once again placed the upscale northern community under the spotlight, as residents and law enforcement grapple with rising concerns about safety in the area.

According to Gros Islet police, a St. Lucian couple was held at gunpoint late at night by unidentified assailants and robbed of all their belongings, including their Subaru Forester. The attack occurred in the vicinity known as “The Moon,” a popular overlook within the Cap Estate region. No injuries were reported, but the psychological impact has been significant.
A nearby resident described the moment the victims came to their gate pleading for help:
“A local couple just woke me up asking for help to call the police. They were on Mount Hardy—The Moon. They were robbed at gunpoint and everything, including their car, was taken. I had to give him a towel to cover up. I was very nervous about who could be shouting at my gate at this time. I called the police for them. Hopefully they will come and assist.”
The incident has reignited calls for heightened security in the area. “Maybe the gates at The Moon should be closed at night? This isn’t the first time,” the resident added.

This latest robbery comes just days after another disturbing incident in Cap Estate—the shooting and eventual death of a 27-year-old man believed to have been mentally ill. That case remains under investigation, but together, the two events have raised urgent questions about safety in what has traditionally been considered one of the island’s most exclusive communities.
Another community member offered a broader perspective: “We need to stay focused on the real issue—a serious crime was committed, and it’s been deeply traumatic for the victims. Instead of questioning why they were in that location, we should recognize that this kind of violence is happening all over our island. No one should feel unsafe just sitting in their car. We all need to take responsibility. This isn’t just a government problem—it’s a community problem.”
Gros Islet police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information on the robbery or recent incidents in the area to come forward. Residents say it’s time for collective action before Cap Estate loses its long-standing reputation as a safe haven.
