Castries, March 19, 2025 – The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), a vital workplace intervention dedicated to enhancing the well-being of government employees, is set to mark its ninth anniversary with a powerful outreach initiative. This Friday, March 21st, from 10:00 AM, the EAP Unit will embark on its “Rock for a Cause” project, using rock painting as a medium to spread messages of inspiration while raising awareness about its life-changing services.

The initiative underscores the EAP’s commitment to mental health and professional resilience, ensuring that public officers and their families receive the support they need to navigate personal and workplace challenges. Over the past nine years, the program has provided free therapy sessions, crisis interventions, and workplace debriefings, serving as a lifeline for hundreds of public servants.

According to EAP Manager, Mrs. Sacha Jn Pierre-James, the program’s impact is both profound and essential. “We save lives, literally and metaphorically, at the EAP,” she stated.

Her words resonate with the testimony of one client who credits the EAP for pulling them back from the brink of suicide.
“I felt like my life was a complete waste… The pain was unbearable. In that moment, a thought crept into my mind: ‘Why don’t you end it?’ I tried to silence that thought, but the more I drank, the louder it became. It was in the midst of this despair that I found the courage to call the EAP. To my great fortune, I was connected with the Manager. We spoke, and through my tears and hopelessness, she guided me away from the cliff of suicide. She helped me see that there was still a way out, a way to heal.”

This is just one of many accounts that highlight the transformative power of the EAP, which offers up to six free confidential counselling sessions to public officers and their immediate families.

Another client expressed their gratitude, stating, “The counselling sessions were very insightful. They challenged me to utilize strategies to better deal with triggers and difficult situations. My counselor was very professional, thoughtful, and helpful. Very thankful for a wonderful experience!”

The EAP continues to be a pillar of support for those struggling with emotional, personal, and professional hardships. As the team visits government departments this Friday, they hope to encourage more individuals to seek help, emphasizing that no problem is too big or too small to reach out for support.
“I believe that once you are human, you will need help in navigating the uncertainties in life. Even if you think you are strong, we all can improve our quality of life with some outside support. Try EAP today!” the Unit expressed.
