A targeted operation by the Gang, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs, ammunition, and cash. The two-phased exercise, conducted on Friday, February 28, 2025, focused on high-risk areas within the northern policing division, including thorough patrols in Castries.
During the operation, officers searched 36 individuals, uncovering quantities of controlled substances in various shops along Jeremie Street, Castries. A Warrant to Search for Property was executed at Liberation Bar, located at the corner of Carl Crescent Street and Jeremie Street, leading to a significant recovery of illicit items, including:
245 grams of Cannabis
178 grams of Cannabis Resin
$3,852 Eastern Caribbean Dollars (XCD)
$153 United States Dollars (USD)
Following the raid, law enforcement officers arrested three individuals in connection with the recovered items:
1. Earland Charles, of Carille, Castries (Proprietor of Liberation Bar)
2. Darren Jason Charles, of La Clery, Castries
3. Daniell Didier, of Ravine Chabot, Castries
Subsequent investigations led police to execute additional search warrants at the homes of all three suspects. At the residence of Darren Jason Charles, officers discovered 21 rounds of .380 ammunition, leading to an additional charge of Possession of Ammunition.
On Monday, March 3, 2025, the accused appeared before the First District Court, where they applied for bail.
Earland Charles and Daniell Didier were granted bail under the following terms:
Possession of Controlled Drugs: $2,000 XCD
Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply: $3,000 XCD
Possession of Cannabis Resin: $3,000 XCD
Possession of Cannabis Resin with Intent to Supply: $7,000 XCD
Darren Jason Charles was granted bail under slightly different terms, including an additional charge for ammunition possession:
Possession of Controlled Drugs: $1,500 XCD
Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply: $2,400 XCD
Possession of Cannabis Resin with Intent to Supply: $5,000 XCD
Possession of Ammunition: $8,000 XCD
Meanwhile, further inquiries revealed that Earland Charles had previously been charged in November 2024 for drug-related offenses, which are still pending before the lower court.
The RSLPF continues its efforts to dismantle illegal drug operations across Saint Lucia, warning that similar crackdowns will persist as part of its mission to combat organized crime and illicit trafficking.
