A long-standing Mother’s Day and Father’s Day tradition in Aux Lyons has once again been transformed into meaningful community support, with this year’s contribution from the mothers raising $8,125 to assist residents, small businesses and the Aux Lyons Combined School.
The initiative is led by the Aux Lyons Mothers and Fathers Group, which was established in 1975 and has spent nearly five decades promoting unity, fellowship and community welfare among residents and friendly associations connected to Aux Lyons.
One of the group’s most cherished practices takes place around its annual Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations. After Mother’s Day, the mothers pool funds together and present the money to the fathers. After Father’s Day, the fathers return the gesture by doing the same for the mothers.
Beyond the celebration, however, the funds are used to support the wider community in practical and compassionate ways.
This year, the mothers’ contribution of $8,125 helped support 16 community shops and bars, provided six hampers, and funded 15 envelopes of financial assistance for residents and institutions in need.
According to the group, the assistance reached persons who are sick, patients on dialysis, amputees, elderly mothers and the Aux Lyons Combined School.
The group’s annual Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations remain among its most anticipated events, bringing residents together in appreciation, joy and shared community spirit. But the impact of the tradition now extends beyond the events themselves, serving as a reminder of how collective giving can strengthen families, support vulnerable residents and keep community bonds alive.
As the Aux Lyons Mothers and Fathers Group approaches 50 years of service, it says it remains committed to honouring the legacy of those who came before while helping to build a stronger, more connected Aux Lyons for future generations.
For Aux Lyons, the tradition continues to show that community development can begin with simple acts of generosity between mothers, fathers, neighbours and families
