Young Man Succumbs to Stab Wounds in Castries; First Homicide Recorded for 2026
A young man has died after sustaining multiple stab wounds during an altercation in Castries on Friday evening, marking the first homicide for 2026, according to police sources.
The deceased has been identified as a 16-year-old male, originally from Darling Road, Castries, but who resided in Corinth.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) reported that officers received a report of a stabbing incident at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Friday, January 2nd. Information reaching Saint Lucia Daily Post indicates that the victim was involved in an altercation with another male near the Grande Riviere bus stand along Jeremie Street, where he was stabbed multiple times.
After being injured, the teenager reportedly ran across to Darling Road, where he was assisted by members of the public and transported to hospital in a private vehicle. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests had been reported up to press time, and investigations are ongoing.
The killing comes against the backdrop of a decrease in violent crime, with the RSLPF confirming 71 homicides in 2025.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department or the nearest police station.
