Nineteen-year-old boxer John Didier continues his rapid rise on the international stage after being shortlisted for the 2025 Senior Sportsman of the Year Award, to be presented at the upcoming National Sports Awards on February 14.
The nomination, confirmed by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, places the Vieux Fort native among the country’s top-performing athletes and marks another major milestone in his fast-developing career.

The St. Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) has welcomed the recognition, describing it as a testament to Didier’s exceptional performances, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the sport over the past year. The Association says his achievements have not only elevated his personal profile, but also strengthened the standing of boxing in Saint Lucia.
SLBA President David Christopher said the nomination represents a proud moment for the local boxing fraternity.
“John Didier’s nomination is a proud moment for boxing in Saint Lucia. His commitment to excellence, consistency, and fighting spirit truly embody what it means to represent our country with honour,” Christopher stated.
Didier’s journey has become a source of inspiration for young athletes across the island, highlighting what is possible through dedication, discipline, and belief. According to the SLBA, his success also reflects the collective effort of coaches, officials, and supporters who continue to develop the sport locally while pushing Saint Lucian boxing onto the international stage.

Christopher added that the recognition sends a powerful message to the next generation of athletes.
“John’s success inspires the next generation of boxers and athletes across the island. This recognition shows that hard work, discipline, and belief can take our athletes to the highest levels of national recognition.”
As anticipation builds ahead of the awards ceremony, the boxing community and sports fans alike will be watching closely as Didier competes among the nation’s finest at the 2025 National Sports Awards, a moment that underscores both his personal excellence and the growing strength of boxing in Saint Lucia.
