UWP’s Newly Endorsed Candidates Prioritise Women, Youth and Elderly

The United Workers’ Party at a public meeting in La Caye, Dennery, on Sunday endorsed five more candidates who will be contesting the 2026 General Elections for the Party. They include: Marcella Johnson for Gros Islet, Bradley Philogence for Dennery North, Elisha Norbert for Micoud North, Leanna Johannes-Paul for Vieux Fort South and Laure JnPierre for Laborie/Augier.

Laborie/Augier Candidate, Laure Jn. Pierre, stressed the need for women-centred policy decisions, healthy emotional skills for young men and is advocating for peace among youth. Jn. Pierre is an entrepreneur and media personality. Under her stewardship, she says, Laborie is poised to see development.

“We have to empower our women to walk without fear. And we must teach our men that strength is not in their fists, but in character. Too many of us have cried behind closed doors and hidden in our homes. So tonight, I stand here for every woman, too afraid to leave, for every child who has hidden under a bed, praying for their yelling to stop, for every man who has been told to man up instead of being allowed to heal,” said Jn. Pierre in a touching address.

UWP Candidate for Gros Islet, Marcella Johnson, says the United Workers’ Party will usher in policies for youth, women and the elderly. She encourages UWP supporters to work alongside her to unseat the incumbent MP, Kenson Casimir. Johnson, a businesswoman raised in Marchand but residing in Gros Islet, says a time for change is coming.

“I need your voices, your passion, your ideas, your support. I need you to believe not just in me, but in the power we have together. So let’s get to work. Let’s knock on doors. Let’s have conversations. Let’s spread this movement of hope and change. And let’s show them that when the people of St. Lucia come together, there is nothing we can’t achieve,” she said.

The UWP has yet to announce candidates for key seats like Castries North, Babonneau and Vieux Fort North.
