Export Saint Lucia CEO Sunita Daniel has been elected Chairperson of the Caribbean Export Development Agency, with a vision for regional businesses to help shape global trade.
Her election, announced Friday, October 9, took place during the agency’s 46th Meeting of the Board of Directors. Ishmael Quiroz, Executive Director of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), was elected Deputy Chairman.
Daniel takes the helm as Caribbean Export marks its 30th anniversary. The agency supports export growth, investment and private sector development across the region.
Looking ahead, she identified innovation and regional collaboration as key to unlocking greater opportunities for Caribbean entrepreneurs.
“Through innovation and regional collaboration, Caribbean enterprises will help shape global trade and not merely participate in it,” Daniel said. “We stand with confidence, boldly declaring that the Caribbean is open for business, investment and hospitality.”
An economist by profession, Daniel has led Export Saint Lucia for eight years, working to increase the value and volume of the country’s exports.
She previously served as Saint Lucia’s Chief Planning Officer for Agriculture and as Programme Liaison Officer to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Her experience includes trade facilitation, policy development, agriculture, business development and resource mobilisation.
Export Saint Lucia welcomed her election as recognition of her leadership and commitment to expanding opportunities for businesses. The organisation said the appointment also gives Saint Lucia a direct role in shaping Caribbean Export’s strategic direction.
