Ezechiel Joseph has informed United Workers Party Chairman Therold Prudent that he cannot continue heading the party’s Convention Committee, alleging that unnamed individuals are deliberately delaying the convention to elect a new management team.
In a letter dated October 28, 2026, Joseph linked his decision to frustration over the pace of preparations following an internal review of the UWP’s 2025 election defeat.
“It’s my observation that since these presentations. There is a deliberate attempt by some to delay Convention,” he wrote.
Joseph said discussions with the National Executive earlier this year had left him with the understanding that the party would hold its convention, which he also referred to as an Island Council, before the end of 2026.
That vote, he explained, was supposed to follow an independent internal review examining why the party lost the elections.
According to Joseph, the review has been completed, and its report presented to and discussed with both the Political Leader and the National Executive.
His complaint centres on what has happened since those presentations: an alleged effort to stall the convention despite completion of the review that was expected to precede it.
“In light of all these procrastination. Please note that I can not continue as Chairman of the Convention Committee,” Joseph stated.
He did not identify those he accused of delaying the process, explain their alleged motives or disclose the review’s findings.
The letter ends with Joseph wishing his party well and indicates that it was copied to the Political Leader and the press.
His decision concerns his role as Convention Committee chairman; the letter does not announce his departure from the UWP. The supplied correspondence contains no response from the party to his allegations.
