Labour Officers Take Workplace Checks to Choiseul and Laborie

Must Read

Workplace conditions and workers’ rights are in focus as Saint Lucia’s islandwide labour inspection drive reaches businesses in Choiseul and Laborie.

Labour Officers visited several establishments on Friday, October 16, checking workplace conditions and engaging employers on their responsibilities under labour legislation and occupational safety and health requirements.

The latest visits follow recent inspections in Soufriere, as the Department of Labour, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs continues its push to strengthen workplace standards.

In Choiseul, officers visited Massy Supermarket, W Mart and Domino’s Pizza at Choiseul Plaza. In Laborie, the exercise included Discount Wave, Bananaz Bar and Jn Pierre Enterprises.

The Department’s release did not disclose findings or identify any breaches at the businesses visited.

According to the Department, the inspections serve a dual purpose: assessing conditions on the ground and helping employers understand what the law requires. Officers also use the visits to identify areas needing attention and provide guidance on meeting workplace standards.

For workers, the exercise is intended to strengthen protection of their rights and promote safer working environments. For employers, it is a reminder to review workplace practices and address compliance concerns proactively.

The Department is urging businesses to cooperate with Labour Officers as inspections continue across the island, with fair labour practices and workplace safety remaining central to the exercise.
