The investigation into the collapsed Creators Alliance investment scheme has taken another turn, with the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) charging a Gros Islet woman with seven counts of money laundering involving approximately $1.062 million.
Electra Fernand of Massade, Gros Islet, was among several people detained during a joint island-wide operation by the FIA and Royal Saint Lucia Police Force in May 2025 as authorities investigated the Creators Alliance scheme.
Creators Alliance, described by the FIA as a suspected pyramid-style investment opportunity, began operating locally and regionally around June 2024 before collapsing abruptly in March 2025. According to the authority, thousands of investors in Saint Lucia and across the Caribbean suffered significant financial losses.
The latest charges follow a separate set of criminal proceedings stemming from the investigation. Six people were charged by the Major Crime Unit in May 2025 with operating a virtual asset business without a licence under the Virtual Asset Business Act. One later pleaded guilty, while the remaining five, including Fernand, remain on bail awaiting trial.
The FIA said its investigation into suspected money laundering connected to Creators Alliance continued after those initial charges, culminating in Fernand’s arrest and subsequent charges under sections 28 and 30 of the Money Laundering (Prevention) Act.
Money laundering under those provisions carries maximum penalties of up to $1 million in fines and/or 15 years’ imprisonment.
Fernand subsequently appeared before Magistrate Reynolds of the First District Court for a bail hearing and was granted bail. The FIA release contains an apparent inconsistency in the bail figure, spelling out $125,000 while placing $25,000 in brackets, so the precise amount is unclear from the document.
As the investigation continues, the FIA has renewed its warning to the public to exercise caution before putting money into unregulated or unauthorised investment schemes and to seek independent professional advice to verify whether an investment entity is legitimate and properly licensed.
