From building their understanding of robotics to exploring journalism, esports and digital content creation, 48 young people in Micoud North spent five days gaining exposure to skills increasingly shaping the world around them.

The 2026 Mopo Youth Summer Retreat ran from July 27 to 31 at the Mon Repos Patience Combined School under the theme “Unlock Your Potential, Power Up Your Skills.”

With Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Mass Media at the centre of this year’s programme, participants took part in sessions covering beat production, hazard mapping, effective communication, journalism, esports, phone photography, videography, and robotics.

The experience went beyond learning how to use technology. Organisers also used the retreat to encourage teamwork, creativity, leadership, problem-solving and greater self-confidence among the participants.

The retreat was organised by the Department of Youth Development and Sports, the Mon Repos Youth & Sports Council and the Micoud Youth & Sports Council, with support from facilitators and community partners.
