Ackeem Auguste Recovering from Major Health Scare Ahead of T20 World Cup

Must Read

Former West Indies U19 World Cup captain Ackeem Auguste suffered a major health scare over the holidays. Auguste, who was plying his trade in the International League T20 (ILT20) for the Mumbai Emirates Cricket team, suffered a bout of food poisoning just before Christmas. Unfortunately, complications from this scenario led to the 22-year-old top order batter having to undergo emergency surgery in Abu Dhabi where the team is based, to remedy the situation.

Auguste who had a breakthrough campaign last year, was a noticeable exclusion from the recently named West Indies squad to face Afghanistan; on the back of him making his senior debut on October 20 against Bangladesh in an ODI fixture in Mirpur. The classy left hander would make his maiden half century against the same opposition on October 30, 2025 and by November 30, Auguste had racked up 9 international appearances for the maroons (4 ODIs and 5 T20Is) against Bangladesh and New Zealand. The missed Afghanistan series would have been a final opportunity to impress and try to get into the West Indies T20 World Cup squad, coached by Daren Sammy, who is also Auguste’s Saint Lucia Kings CPL coach.

Despite the setback, Ackeem is in good spirits and Saint Lucia Daily Post is happy to report that he is back home in Saint Lucia in the company of family and is recovering well.
