Casimir Outlines Key Projects at Corinth–Grande Riviere Meeting

Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet and Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir, on Tuesday evening highlighted what he described as major community and national achievements under the current Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration during a public meeting in Corinth and Grande Riviere.

Casimir told residents the government had delivered “tangible progress” across housing, youth development, and sports.  He announced that several long-standing tenants in Corinth will soon receive land titles at a subsidised cost of one dollar per square foot, following the government’s purchase of the property from a private owner.  The initiative, he said, aims to give families long-awaited security of ownership.

The Minister also cited completed or ongoing infrastructure works in Corinth and neighbouring communities, including new and rehabilitated access roads, upgraded drainage, and the installation of flood-control systems.  He noted that lights were recently commissioned at the Corinth Playing Field, calling it “a major boost for youth recreation and community activity.”

Casimir referenced other government programmes such as the Youth Economy Agency, which provides grants of up to EC $5,000 for small business start-ups, and the MSME Loan Grant Facility offering up to EC $30,000 through the Ministry of Commerce.  He added that the introduction of semi-professional football and cricket leagues have allowed athletes to earn income from local competition, while initiatives like government-funded CXC fees and bursaries for secondary students have, in his words, “lessened the burden on working families.”

On the broader social front, the Minister reminded supporters that the administration has removed VAT on sanitary products and expanded university scholarship access through partnerships with Monroe College and the University of the West Indies.

Casimir also addressed what he characterised as “personal and political attacks” against him, asserting that his focus remains on community service.  “I am a son of Gros Islet, shaped by this community,” he said.  “My record is visible.”

The Corinth/Grande Riviere meeting formed part of Casimir’s ongoing constituency campaign ahead of the island’s next general elections on December 1st.
