Hundreds to Benefit from Short-Term Jobs Under 2025 Summer Stimulus Program

Must Read

Hundreds of Saint Lucians are set to benefit from short-term employment and community enhancement works under the 2025 Summer Stimulus Program (STEP), launched Monday by the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) in collaboration with Members of Parliament.

The five-day initiative will engage thousands of individuals across constituencies island-wide to carry out small-scale beautification and community cleaning projects in areas not covered by the existing Roadside Beautification Program. Activities include clearing overgrown foliage to improve road safety, reducing mosquito breeding grounds, and enhancing the appearance of neighborhoods.

According to SSDF’s Executive Director, Mr. John Victorin, the program delivers far more than cleaner surroundings:

“The Summer Stimulus Program is much more than a clean-up exercise. It is a lifeline for thousands of Saint Lucians who have benefitted from the dignity of employment through this initiative over the years. By putting tools in people’s hands, we are not only beautifying communities but also empowering families with short-term income that makes a real difference in their daily lives. This is people-centered development in action.”

Beyond its community impact, STEP provides vital income opportunities for vulnerable citizens, aligning with the SSDF’s mission of reducing poverty and dependency.

The public is advised to exercise caution around work sites, as debris from cleanup efforts will be stored in clear garbage bags for collection.
