RSLPF’s Inspector Shervon Matthieu Graduates Summa Cum Laude from Monroe University

Must Read

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is celebrating a remarkable academic milestone by one of its own. Inspector Shervon Matthieu, attached to the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, has graduated Summa Cum Laude from Monroe University in New York with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

The Latin distinction Summa Cum Laude, meaning “with highest praise,” is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic excellence. Inspector Matthieu achieved this while actively leading high-risk operations against illegal firearms, gangs, and narcotics in Saint Lucia.

“This achievement is not mine,” Inspector Matthieu shared. “It belongs to my mother, my brother, my friends, and my colleagues who supported me every step of the way. Balancing policing with university studies was not easy, but I stayed focused on my dream.”

Matthieu also revealed plans to pursue further education in either Homeland Security or Criminal Intelligence—fields that align with his career in law enforcement and crime prevention.

The graduation ceremony, held on June 12th at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, was Monroe’s first since receiving university status. Inspector Matthieu was among 22 Saint Lucians who graduated this year.

The Commissioner of Police, the RSLPF Executive, and fellow officers officially commended Inspector Matthieu, stating: “You’ve made your country and your Force proud.”

Minister for Education, Honourable Shawn Edward, also extended congratulations:

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. Congratulations to Police Inspector Shervon Matthieu and the 21 other Saint Lucians who featured in the 2025 Monroe University Commencement at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan this morning. Best wishes in your future endeavours!”

This accomplishment highlights the growing importance of education and training within the ranks of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and reflects positively on the nation’s investment in human capital development.
