Police Spearhead Rodney Bay Beautification and Safety Initiative

Must Read

Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia – March 7, 2025 – The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has taken the lead in a large-scale de-bushing and beautification exercise in Rodney Bay, aiming to enhance security and curb criminal activity in one of the island’s busiest tourism hubs.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Northern Division of the RSLPF, comes in response to recent attacks on tourists, which have raised concerns about safety in the area. Working in collaboration with the Gros Islet Town Council, the Saint Lucia Hospitality & Tourism Association (SLHTA), the St Lucia Fire Service, and Rodney Bay residents, police officers coordinated efforts to clear overgrown vegetation and improve visibility along key public spaces.

According to Assistant Police Commissioner Elvis Thomas, the operation is a proactive crime-prevention measure. “Criminals often use overgrown areas to conceal their activities, creating unsafe conditions for residents and visitors. This initiative is about reclaiming public spaces and sending a strong message that safety is our priority.”

The cleanup effort focused on areas that had been identified as potential hideouts, with police working alongside volunteers and municipal workers to clear dense vegetation in high-traffic zones.

The Gros Islet Town Council praised the RSLPF for taking decisive action, emphasizing that security and urban upkeep go hand in hand.

Local business owners and residents have welcomed the move, recognizing it as a step toward making the area safer and more appealing to visitors.

This initiative is part of a broader security push by the RSLPF to enhance safety in tourist-heavy locations. Alongside beautification efforts, authorities are increasing police patrols, and strengthening engagement with the business community.

Law enforcement officials have emphasized that this will not be a one-time effort but an ongoing strategy to deter crime and safeguard Saint Lucia’s reputation as a premier travel destination.

The Daily Post will continue to monitor developments as the RSLPF and its partners work to maintain a safer and more vibrant Rodney Bay.
