A fatal vehicular accident along Nelson Mandela Drive, Vigie, on Sunday evening has claimed the life of a 39-year-old man and left another individual in critical condition at the Owen King European Union (OKEU) Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Sam Emmanuel, a resident of Hospital Road.
According to reports, the Department of Road Safety and Traffic Investigations received a call at approximately 8:20 p.m. regarding a serious crash in the Vigie area. Videos circulating on social media show the aftermath of the accident, with Emmanuel motionless and trapped in the wreckage after the vehicle he was in collided with a tree.
Emergency personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene and extricated Emmanuel from the mangled vehicle. However, the severity of his injuries proved fatal.
A second male occupant of the car sustained critical injuries and was rushed to OKEU Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details on the cause of the accident, and investigations are ongoing.
