Fuel Prices Hold — But Sharp LPG Increase Sparks New Cost Concerns

Must Read

Fuel prices in Saint Lucia will remain largely unchanged for the next pricing cycle, offering some stability to consumers, even as select liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) products see notable increases.

In its latest adjustment covering April 20 to May 10, 2026, the Government confirmed that gasoline and diesel will both remain at $3.52 per litre ($16.00 per imperial gallon), while kerosene holds at $2.12 per litre ($9.66 per imperial gallon). Cooking gas prices for standard household cylinders also remain unchanged, with the 20 lb cylinder priced at $34.00 and the 22 lb cylinder at $38.00.

However, larger LPG users will feel the impact of rising global oil prices. The 100 lb cylinder has increased significantly, moving from $238.50 to $263.50 per cylinder, while bulk LPG has risen from $2.26 to $2.51 per pound.

The Government says it continues to shield consumers from sharper increases through targeted subsidies. Diesel is currently subsidised at $2.34 per imperial gallon, while kerosene carries a subsidy of $8.61 per imperial gallon. LPG subsidies remain substantial, with $36.04 applied to 20 lb cylinders and $39.04 to 22 lb cylinders. The 100 lb cylinder benefits from an $86.69 subsidy, while bulk LPG is supported at $0.87 per pound.

Officials noted that without these interventions, the cost of a 20 lb cylinder would climb to approximately $70.04, and a 22 lb cylinder to $77.04—more than double current retail prices.

The pricing adjustments are based on fluctuations in international oil markets and the Government’s modified market pass-through petroleum pricing mechanism, which aims to balance global price movements with local affordability.

The next fuel price review is scheduled for May 11, 2026.
