One man is dead and two children are among those injured following a shooting in Soufrière on Sunday night. The incident has reignited tensions between rival communities there.
Reports indicate that gunfire erupted around 9:15 p.m. along Barons Drive. Masked assailants are said to have opened fire, prompting a swift police response.
Sources close to the incident said two male children sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. Another individual was also shot and remains hospitalized. He has been identified as 24-year-old Vernel. He is said to have been recently released from prison after serving an eight-year sentence.
The deceased has been identified as Kayson Simon, better known as “Bigs” of Palmiste. His death has sparked outrage among residents of both communities.
Tensions between Palmiste and Barons Drive have persisted for years. The involvement of children has further heightened concern within the community.
