The Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) has announced the appointment of members to its newly established CBC Working Groups, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen governance, development, competitions, technical standards, marketing, and regional collaboration across Caribbean basketball.
The Working Groups will operate on a voluntary basis under the guidance of the CBC Executive Committee for the remainder of the current executive term, ending in 2027, and will work closely with FIBA, CONCENCABA, and national basketball federations throughout the region.
Saint Lucian Appointed Governance Working Group
Among those appointed is Ian Mitchell of Saint Lucia, who has been named to the CBC Governance Working Group, one of the Confederation’s core bodies responsible for supporting CBC operations in administration, ethics, compliance, financial planning, risk management, technology, and national federation support.
Mitchell brings a long history of involvement in basketball at both the sporting and administrative levels. He coached and managed the Vide Bouteille Cultural Club (VBCC) senior men’s basketball team for more than seven years, competing in Saint Lucia’s senior men’s club basketball competitions. He has also coached women’s basketball and male youth basketball, contributing to development across multiple levels of the sport.
His contribution to basketball administration was formally recognized in 2011, when he received the award for Basketball Administrator of the Year at Saint Lucia’s National Sports Awards.
A lifelong basketball enthusiast, Mitchell continues to play recreationally. As a teenager, he represented SALCC on its 1992 championship basketball team and later played on multiple VBCC club championship teams. He went on to serve two consecutive terms as President of the Vide Bouteille Cultural Club, providing leadership in both organizational development and basketball administration.
Professional and Governance Experience
Beyond basketball, Mitchell has managed his own ICT business, eMagine Solutions Inc., which provides ICT services locally, regionally, and internationally for over 14 years. He is also a past President of the Saint Lucia ICT Association and has accumulated over six years of experience in banking and credit control.
This blend of sports governance, business leadership, financial discipline, and technology expertise aligns closely with the mandate of the CBC Governance Working Group and supports the Confederation’s drive toward stronger institutional frameworks and modernized operations.
