Nearly 100 businesses have registered to participate in this year’s Independence Business Expo, a testament to the event’s growing success and its importance as a platform for local entrepreneurship and economic development.
The expo, organized by Export Saint Lucia, will be held on February 20th and 21st at the Vieux Fort Independence Square as part of activities marking Saint Lucia’s 47th Independence anniversary.
Chief Executive Officer of Export Saint Lucia, Sunita Daniel, says the strong interest from businesses reflects the value the expo continues to deliver for local entrepreneurs. “We have close to 100 businesses registered, which is more than we initially anticipated. This continued growth shows that businesses recognize the importance of this platform,” Daniel said. “Over the years, the expo has helped many entrepreneurs gain visibility, connect with new customers, and access regional and international markets. It has truly made a meaningful impact on the development of our local business community.”
For the first time, organizers will introduce a Night Market on the opening night, creating a vibrant experience for patrons and showcasing Saint Lucia’s culture and cuisine. “Patrons can look forward to live tastings of Saint Lucian cuisine, exciting performances from some of our top entertainers, and a DJ sound clash,” Daniel explained. “It will be an opportunity to celebrate our culture while supporting our local businesses.”
Daniel added that day two of the expo will transform the venue into a cultural showcase, highlighting Saint Lucia’s creativity and innovation.
“This event is where business meets culture, and we are celebrating Saint Lucia’s 47th Independence in a big way,” she said. “We are also welcoming regional and international buyers, including participants from Dubai, who are here to explore opportunities and build partnerships with Saint Lucian businesses.”
Minister for Tourism, Commerce, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage, Dr. Ernest Hilaire, welcomed the strong participation from local businesses, describing the expo as a critical initiative in advancing Saint Lucia’s economic development. “The Independence Business Expo is a powerful demonstration of the talent, resilience, and innovation of our people,” Hilaire said. “It provides a vital platform for our entrepreneurs to showcase their products, connect with buyers, and expand beyond our shores. As a government, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower local businesses and strengthen Saint Lucia’s position in regional and international markets.”
The participation of international buyers is expected to create new export opportunities and further position Saint Lucia’s products on the global stage.
The Independence Business Expo remains a key feature of the island’s Independence celebrations, providing local entrepreneurs with a valuable platform to showcase their products, expand their reach, and contribute to national economic growth.
