The Gros Islet Football League, in partnership with the Desruisseaux Football League, has officially launched the Gros Islet Jennifer Gaston Memorial Youth Football Series, a heartfelt initiative honouring the life and legacy of the late Ms. Jennifer Gaston, a tireless advocate for youth football development in Gros Islet.
The Memorial Series celebrates Ms. Gaston’s lifelong commitment to empowering young men through sport. Known for her selfless dedication of time, energy, and personal resources, Ms. Gaston played a pivotal role in nurturing players who have since progressed to represent the Gros Islet senior football team. Organisers say the tournament stands as a fitting tribute to her enduring impact on the community.

The Series features competitive match-ups across two age categories:
Gros Islet Under-14 vs Desruisseaux Under-14
Gros Islet Under-17 vs Desruisseaux Under-17
Champions in each division will receive the Jennifer Gaston Memorial Series 2026 Shield.
The official launch took place on Saturday, February 7, at the Grande Riviere Playing Field, following an opening ceremony at the Grande Riviere Human Resource Centre. The event drew executive members of the Gros Islet Football League, family members of the late Ms. Gaston, technical staff and players from both districts, and community supporters.

The ceremony was chaired by Michael Pierre, Event and Communications Officer of the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. Proceedings opened with a prayer delivered by Kari Elibox of the Gros Islet Under-14 team, followed by the National Anthem.
In welcoming remarks, Shane Paul, President of the Gros Islet Football League, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and highlighted the League’s pride in preserving Ms. Gaston’s legacy. He encouraged players to use the Series to sharpen their skills while demonstrating discipline, respect, and sportsmanship, and thanked the Gaston family for their continued support.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Jeanna Gaston, daughter of the late Ms. Gaston, said she was deeply honoured to be associated with an initiative that reflects her mother’s lifelong passion for youth football. She commended the organisers and teams for uniting in celebration of the Memorial Series and urged players to remain focused and committed as ambassadors of both sport and community.

Closing remarks were delivered by Chad Desir, who thanked all contributors to the successful staging of the event, underscoring that beyond competition, the true winner of the Series is football itself.
The Jennifer Gaston Memorial Youth Football Series now moves into competition, carrying forward a legacy rooted in service, opportunity, and the belief that sport can shape better young citizens for Saint Lucia.
