Fire Service Stretched as Emergency Calls Surge Over Weekend

The Saint Lucia Fire Service recorded a demanding weekend as officers responded to sixty-eight ambulance calls between Friday, January 30 and Sunday, February 1, underscoring the continued pressure on the island’s emergency response services.

Among the incidents attended was an alleged stabbing reported on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Fire Service officers were dispatched at approximately 4:27 p.m. to Penyier Street in Castries, where they encountered an adult male standing at the roadside in the presence of police officers. The individual reported that he had been assaulted with a sharp object by a group of individuals.

An assessment conducted by emergency personnel revealed a deep laceration to the right hip. The victim was treated on scene before being transported to a medical facility for advanced medical care.

Earlier in the weekend, on Friday, January 30, 2026, Fire Service officers responded to a vehicular fire in Micoud at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were observed coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle. The vehicle’s owner was present and assisted officers in accessing the affected area, allowing firefighters to quickly bring the blaze under control.

The fire was successfully extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Investigations into the origin and cause of the fire are ongoing.

The Saint Lucia Fire Service continues to remind the public of the importance of safety awareness and timely reporting of emergencies, as first responders remain on the front lines providing critical assistance across the island.
